How To Exercise Without A Gym?

There are a lot of advantages to gym membership, but are they a necessity for exercising? Some of us want to exercise but just don’t have access to a gym. Does that mean we should just throw in the towel and forget it?

I say no! Instead of paying membership dues or even buying expensive home gym equipment, get in shape at home, at the park, at work, or even hiking.

How to Exercise Without a Gym?

Long before anyone thought of the idea of gym memberships, people were exercising and staying in great shape. You can do the same today.

Using Your Own Bodyweight for a Good Workout

Whether you’re looking to build more muscle, tone muscles, lose weight, or all of these-these bodyweight exercises will give you all the challenges you need.

  • Pushups
  • Situps
  • Jumping Jacks
  • Squats
  • Step ups
  • Pullups and chinups
  • Planks

There’s nothing wrong or bad about only being able to do one pushup or situp. If you’re out of shape now, just be consistent with your efforts. Just start where you are without overexerting your body, and work to do a little more every week.

You will be surprised at the progress you can make without a gym by doing exercises with your own body weight.

Planks will strengthen your body fast

And when it comes to strengthening your entire core and body, the root of all your efforts should be planks. Planks are the simplest of exercises with the most powerful results.

Most people just starting out can only hold the plank position for short intervals. However, as you notice the phenomenal changes in your body, you will be motivated to do them longer and more frequently.

Jump Rope

A jump rope is about as cheap as cardio equipment gets, but it’s a great form of exercise that’s also enjoyable. Calves, hearts, and lungs can all be conditioned to fantastic levels. You will also notice a positive effect on your coordination pretty quickly.

And if you want to double the fun, try this cardio exercise with a friend. If you want your kids to grow up loving the physical activity we all need, get them started by jumping rope with you.

If you do take up jumping rope, be sure to start off slowly. Just because you’re able to blow it out the first day doesn’t make it the right thing to do. You risk severe shin splints, achilles tendon pulls, and a lot of sore muscles. So, start with about 4 or 5 minutes a day, and gradually work up.

Run, Walk, Bike

Walking and jogging don’t cost a dime, and you don’t need any gym equipment to do it. If your neighborhood is safe, walking, jogging, or running close to home is a great way to stay in touch with your neighbors while you exercise.

I run and walk on the local walking track, myself. And, even though it’s not in my neighborhood, I get to meet a lot of local folks who are also exercising without a gym.

Other than the cost of a bike, if you don’t have one, biking is also free. And like running and walking, these exercises are some of the best aerobic and cardiovascular exercises you can do.

Face it: There’s no more natural workout routine than either running or walking, and it costs nothing. Of course, you can invest as little or as much as you like in shoes and maybe even an armband for running, but you can do either without a phone or shoes.

Exercise Videos

If you haven’t thought of working out with exercise videos, you could be missing some really good exercise—without a gym.

There are countless exercise videos on Amazon. These videos make exercising at home fun.

Adults should engage in moderate exercise for at least 150 minutes each week, or 20 to 30 minutes per day. Also, try to squeeze in some balance and strength training sessions twice a week.

You probably have access to workout partners right on your TV these days. There’s plenty of 30 minute shows that include everything from yoga to bootcamp workouts. And the ability to work out whenever and wherever you like is a major perk of using exercise videos.

Yoga

The practice of yoga can be thought of as a physical activity. With this method, you hold different poses and move through a series of poses.

One of the best ways to reduce anxiety and calm down while exercising is to practice yoga’s stretching movements. Yoga stretching is practiced by hundreds of thousands of people worldwide as an exercise.

You can learn how to do yoga by watching videos, reading books, or watching TV. all without a gym membership.

Resistance Band Training

Using resistance bands for exercise is an incredible and cheap way to get fit.

Resistance bands are one of the best ways to get exercise. They’re used for building muscle, toning bodies, sculpting arms and legs, recovering from surgeries, and much more.

They are just as portable as body weight workouts and can be done pretty much anywhere. They may be taken anywhere, are easy to carry, and require very little storage space when not in use.

Put them to use anywhere, from a motel to your own living room to a picnic table in the park. You can tie them around a door frame or any other sturdy object. You can get a serious home workout using anything from a door to a door knob to a post to a tree.

The fact is that some of us don’t choose to have a gym membership. It’s easy to think that you need a gym membership or your own home exercise machines to stay in shape. But the truth is that by taking some ideas from this post, you’ll know how to exercise without a gym to stay fit and healthy.
